Cultural Heritage Takes Center Stage at Olubadan Coronation

The coronation ceremony of Oba Ladoja wasn’t just royal—it was deeply cultural. The event featured performances from Egungun masquerade groups, traditional drummers from the Ayankunle guild, and praise-singers who recited the oriki of Ibadan warriors, including Lagelu, Ogunmola, and Aare Latoosa.

Each stage of the coronation reflected Ibadan’s traditional hierarchy. From the Mogajis to the Jagunjagun, the Balogun line to the Otun line, the city’s unique chieftaincy succession system was displayed in full honour. The Olubadan-in-Council paid homage to the new king with symbolic rituals of loyalty.

The highlight of the cultural displays came when the Are Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland delivered a ceremonial salute to the new Olubadan, symbolizing unity among the Yoruba people. The crowd erupted in cheers as royal trumpets sounded, and drums proclaimed the restoration of royal heritage.
