Business Booms in Ibadan as Coronation Attracts Tourists

The economy of Ibadan received a major boost during the coronation festivities as thousands of visitors trooped into the city to witness the royal ceremony. Hotels across Dugbe, Ring Road, Bodija, Orita-Mefa, and Challenge were fully booked, with many visitors turning to Airbnb and guest lodges for accommodation.

Market women at Beere, Oje, Oja’ba and Agbeni reported increased sales of traditional items including Aso-Oke, beads, leather sandals, agbada fabrics, and ceremonial accessories. Food sellers and transportation operators also recorded higher patronage during the week-long celebration leading up to the coronation.

Hospitality operators described the event as economically impactful. “Ibadan has never been this lively in years,” said Mrs. Adenike Olalere, a hotel manager at Ring Road. “This coronation brought in people from all over the country and even foreign tourists. It has put us back on the tourism map.”
